Holiday Fun
This week was a lot of fun. The students were working on 2D and 3D shapes which fit in perfectly with some Christmas activities. We wrote letters to Santa to practice our letter writing, found hidden Christmas pictures using our hundreds chart, and finished our Personal Narrative stories. The students were extra energetic, but still a great bunch to work with. We actually took our Math test, Theme test for language and Spelling and Vocabulary! So, in the midst of the excitement, we accomplished plenty of learning! Enjoy some pictures from this week below...

Dec. 13, 2013
It was a fun and very "energetic" week. But, we were able to learn a lot and have some fun while we learned. We learned about vertices and edges and 3D shapes in Math. Then, we created our own 3D shapes out of marshmallows and toothpicks. We also made shape art by using the shapes we have been talking about and identifying. The students did lots of reading and writing. We are working on the writing process, and students are working on a personal narrative. They are getting very excited for Christmas, so we are trying to take breaks to move around more, and incorporating more hands on activities than ever!! We also switched our desks around this week. Mrs. Aaneruud came and visited us today for awhile while we worked on our sight words and vocabulary words.

December 6, 2013
This was a busy week for the second graders in Mrs. Malinowski's/Churchill's class. They worked hard towards Friday which included a Reading Theme test, a Spelling test, a vocabulary test AND the Unit 4 math test. They did GREAT! I sent all the tests home in their Friday folders, except the Math. That will go home on Monday.
We had two days of indoor recess because of the cold, so you can imagine the energy levels. We played math games at the end of the day today and that helped. It's just not fair to have all this snow and have it be too cold to play in.
Next week we will start Unit 5 in Math. We will focus on shapes, 2D and 3D. It will be a fun Unit with some fun activities.
We finished Theme 4 in Reading. The story for this week was "Where is Kitty?" which I called "Hello Kitty" all week long. I could not get it right. The students got a kick out of that, and corrected me each time through giggles.
Quote of the week from one of your children, "Mrs. Churchill, why is recess so short and everything else so long?" :-)
Enjoy your weekend.
Mrs. Churchill
